Williams souligne les risques de l’extension du formalisme de l’analyse littéraire vers les pratiques non esthétiques. On ressort la projection involontaire des théories sociales ou des idéologies « conformistes ». La dépendance de Latour de ces méthodes est évidente donc son projet est susceptible de la critique de « piège formaliste » de Williams mais la récente autocritique de Latour entraîne un renouvellement de l’analyse critique. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper provides a brief comparison of the work of Raymond Williams and Bruno Latour. Williams’s analysis of the risks involved in the extension of formalist methods developed within literary analysis to non-aesthetic practices is outlined. Chief amongst these is the inadvertent projection of ’conformist’ social theories or ideologies. Latour’s dependence on just such a set of methods is demonstrated. His project is thus found to be susceptible to Williams’s critique of a ’formalist trap’ but Latour’s recent autocritiques are seen to offer the prospect of a renewal of the practice of critique. |
