| Summary, etc. | Rencontrer des personnes vulnérables soulève des questions éthiques et expose les chercheurs à des émotions inattendues. Cet article vise à raconter les difficultés personnelles et interpersonnelles que j’ai rencontrées lors de mon enquête ethnographique d’associations venant en aide aux sans-abri. Si je fus confrontée à des situations choquantes et marquantes qui ont interrogé mon rapport aux bénévoles et aux sans-abri, deux éléments sont essentiels à prendre en compte quand il s’agit de rencontrer des personnes vulnérables : la relation à elles et la relation à soi. L’objet de cet article est de remettre en question des présupposés éthiques et d’interroger l’adaptabilité des méthodologies tournées vers les affects (Moriceau, 2019 ; Gherardi, 2018) pour des terrains sensibles. Enfin, je défends l’idée que la bienveillance envers les informateurs et envers soi-même permet de mener au mieux une recherche au contact de personnes vulnérabilisées. |

| Summary, etc. | Meeting vulnerable people raises ethical issues and exposes researchers to unexpected emotions. This article aims to narrate the personal and interpersonal difficulties I encountered during my ethnographic investigation of non-profit organisations helping the homeless. While I was confronted with shocking and striking situations that questioned my relationship with volunteers and the homeless, two elements are fundamental to consider when it comes to meeting vulnerable people: the relationship to them and the relationship to oneself. The purpose of this article is to question ethical assumptions and to investigate the adaptability of affect-oriented methodologies (Moriceau, 2019; Gherardi, 2018) for sensitive fields. Finally, I defend the idea that benevolence towards informants and oneself allows for the best conduct of research in relation to vulnerable people. |
