Summary, etc. | Cet article explore le positionnement des employeur·se·s expatrié·e·s face à leurs employé·e·s domestiques. Il s’appuie sur 28 entretiens semi-directifs et revêt une composante auto-ethnographique. Il caractérise l’expérience des expatrié·e·s dans différentes situations : se trouver dans une position sociale dominante et acquérir le statut d’employeur ; cohabiter avec du personnel à temps plein, dans un pays étranger ; s’inscrire dans des rapports hiérarchiques ; et se confronter à la pauvreté et aux « malheurs » de leurs employé·e·s. Si le maternalisme prédomine, le positionnement des employeuses expatriées se construit par combinaison avec les modèles libéral, raciste et solidaire. |

Summary, etc. | This article explores the positioning of expatriate employers vis-à-vis their domestic workers. It is based on 28 semi-structured interviews and has an auto-ethnographic component. It characterizes the expatriates’ experiences in different situations: finding themselves in a dominant social position and becoming employers; living with full-time staff in a foreign country; fitting into hierarchical relationships; and being confronted to their employees’ poverty and “misfortunes.” While maternalism predominates, the positioning of expatriate employers is constructed by combining it with liberal, racist, and solidarity models. |

Toma en consideración veintiocho entrevistas semiestructuradas y adopta un componente autoetnográfico. El artículo define la experiencia de los expatriados en situaciones diversas: encontrarse en una situación social dominante y adquirir el estatus de empleador; cohabitar con personal a jornada completa, en un país extranjero; inscribirse en relaciones jerárquicas; confrontarse a la pobreza y a los “infortunios” de sus empleados y empleadas.
