| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The Passions of Passion – from the Wounded Body to Writing the Abyss. Somatic Variations and Creative Processes The phenomenon of the stigmata of Christ’s Passion appear exclusively in Western cultures during the Medieval period. While Saint Francis of Assisi is the iconic bearer of self-inflicted wounds and enigmatic somatisations, stigmata are more commonly a feature of a woman’s anorectic manner of existing in the world. Catherine of Siena is an exemplary figure in this light. Through her, Giotto’s work transforms the image of the stigmatised body into one in which the body is revered. Finally, the question of Catherine’s writing will lead us from the question of stigmata to explore the mystics of the Passion as a mystics of the Word. |
