520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Transmission through Biology, Transmission through the Family and Mind. This is a theoretical text on the bonding of filiation. The bond serves to bridge the generation gap and engenders a process of psychical transmission between its members. At the heart of this process is identification, sending a Narcissistic exchange flowing back and forth between parent and child. This transmission guarantees that incest remains forbidden, as the underlying condition of the family bond, and establishes an interaction between giving, on the parental side, and debt on the child’s. Clinical practice amply illustrates the vagaries of this process, particularly in cases of child abuse in which the generation gap becomes confused. Psychical transmission processes are always stronger than those involved in biological transmission, but the imaginary role of the latter may be extremely persistent, especially when biological transmission is lacking, as may be observed in cases of adoption. |
