| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Amelot de La Houssaye in his translations, linked by a thematic coherence (Machiavelli, Sarpi, Gracián, Tacitus), also claims to be a commentator, repeating Justius Lipsius’ words: “everything is mine, and nothing”. The choice and the combination of quotations in footnotes are significant: Amelot proves himself to be a tacitist, by the doctrine, by the parallels drawn between Antiquity and modern Europe as well as by his work upon quotations, which become maxims once extracted from the original texts. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
