| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The soteriological dimension and anthropological implications of Athanasius of Alexandria’s debates with Arianism have been highlighted by recent Athanasian studies, particularly following the work of Robert Gregg and Denis Groh. Faced with Arianism, which reduces the Son to being, like us, one chosen by grace and merit, Athanasius insists on the centrality of the Son in our divine election. This position of the Alexandrian finds an echo in Karl Barth, a modern theologian in his conception of the Son as the subject of our divine election. This article is based on a presentation given by the author at the 14th “Athanasius of Alexandria, the stubborn faithful of Nicaea” patristics conference organized by the Caritas Patrum association on March 29, 2025, at the Jean-Baptiste Souzy Center in La Rochelle. |
