| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Perceptive norms in folk linguistics approaching facts of language that raise the question of folk linguistics allows one to displace the habitually binary conception of norm (descriptive vs prescriptive) and suggest a third term : perception. in france, the still very Cartesian definition of scientific truth and the fact that norms have been monopolized by academism and purism has up to now hardly encouraged such a field of research to emerge. Yet, data emanating from profane linguistics are well apt to considerably enrich and renew existing work on norms in languages and varieties of language. indeed, they warrant being studied specifically, not just as a simple and naïve, pre-scientific beginning, but as a possible version of linguistic theory. We then rediscover, beyond the representations, the way the rules of the system actually function. |
