520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This article offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Frédéric Le Play’s thinking on natural resource management. It draws on current developments, notably land redistribution in the Vosges forests and forms of community governance in West Africa. It shows how Le Play’s insights remain relevant to thinking about sustainability. Le Play emphasized empirical observation, territorial anchoring, and the structuring role of the family in the transmission of knowledge and responsibilities. These dimensions appear today to be essential levers in contexts where resource management is based on stable social arrangements, shared memory, and forms of intergenerational mutual aid. However, the article highlights the limitations of this model when tradition becomes rigid or when technocratic sustainable development mechanisms conflict with local regulations. In conclusion, it defends the relevance of a Le Play-inspired “social ecology”: a patient, situated approach that is attentive to lived environments and capable of bringing local knowledge and contemporary expertise into dialogue.
