| Summary, etc. | RésuméIl importe de prendre conscience que la traduction humaine est difficile et diverse, et que l’automatisation est devenue indispensable non seulement aux usagers du ’produit fini’, mais aussi aux traducteurs et aux interprètes. L’automatisation elle-même se manifeste sous des formes variées. Après une brève présentation des outils informatisés mis à la disposition des traducteurs, on se concentrera sur les approches linguistiques et informatisées de la traduction automatique proprement dite. Cet examen fournira un éventail de critères permettant de classer les systèmes CAT(computer-aided translation) existants qui seront brièvement illustrés. On essaiera enfin de montrer quelles sont les perspectives d’avenir en matière de recherche, de développement et d’expansion dans ce secteur. |

| Summary, etc. | It is important to realise that human translation is difficult and diverse, and that automation is needed not only by end users, but also by translators and interpreters. Also, automation itself comes in many forms. After briefly describing computer tools for translators, we will concentrate on the linguistic and computer approaches to the automation of translation proper. This survey will yield an array of criteria for categorizing existing CAT systems, with brief examples of the state of the art. Finally, we present perspectives of future research, development, and dissemination. |
