| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | French and American males and females participated in two experiments examining the distribution of rewards. In Experiment 1, participants allocated funds to fictitious work-study applicants. Whereas they used equity to some degree, participants showed a greater tendency toward allocating based on applicant need, and this effect was greater in France. In Experiment 2, participants rated the fairness of allocations which were based on the rules of equity, equality, or need. Reactions were most favorable to need-based allocations. Considering need was considered most fair in both France and the United States, but the secondary focuses were equality for the French and equity for the Americans. The results are also discussed in terms of their implications for affirmative action programs. |
