| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | In the tradition of the Cahiers Critiques de Thérapie Familiale et de Pratiques de Réseaux, this article treats silence using a resolutely systemic approach. It considers silence as a form of language and as a relational modality in its own right. Systemic therapists build up silence together with their patients; they contain their own emotions and resonances (embarrassment, discomfort, insecurity, etc.), while respecting the subject’s need and desire for silence, a « silence of life », full of meaning and free from any injunction. Therapists put silences at the service of the therapy, while protecting and consolidating the therapeutic alliance. They interweave sounds and silences and thus create therapeutic change for their patients. Our purpose here is limited to the silence intrinsic to the psychotherapy session, a co-construction of both the therapists and their patients. We exclude silences due to psychiatric or organic pathologies or due to the young age of a patient. |
