| Summary, etc. |
| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The greening of agricultural practices is taking place in multiple and competing ways that are redefining the binary opposition between conventional and organic farming inherited from the critique of agricultural modernisation. Since the institutionalisation of agroecology in France, hybrid forms of greening are increasingly linked to productivity and economic performance, raising many questions. Faced with this new ‘space of agroecological possibilities’, how are farmers appropriating the demands for greening their practices? How are they positioning themselves, within organic agriculture and beyond, in the face of the pluralisation of production models claiming environmental virtues? To what extent does the expansion of the space of actors empowered to define what constitutes the most legitimate form of green agriculture challenge the previous hierarchy of this space, where organic farming occupied the dominant position? Drawing on a wealth of empirical data obtained using mixed methods (questionnaires, interviews), this article shows how these appropriations and redefinitions contribute to the intertwined processes of politicisation and depoliticisation of agricultural and environmental issues. |
