Si certains de ces navires semblent plutôt destinés à la course ou au combat et d’autres au transport de marchandises, la distinction entre ces deux catégories est difficile à faire, les bâtiments de cette époque étant souvent armés en « guerre et marchandise ». Leurs constructeurs n’hésitent pas à innover en adoptant des techniques de construction étrangères afin d’améliorer l’architecture de leur navire. |
