Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | New agriculture and family transformations in the North-Eastern Highlands of CambodiaIndigenous populations in Ratanakiri Province have long practiced swidden agriculture. Every village has a territory, within which each household clears a section of the forest in order to sow rainfed rice along with an important variety of secondary foodstuffs and non edible products. In the past, family agriculture implying elaborated mutual aid systems prevailed in the uplandsRecent national development policies for agriculture have promoted cash crops. Important migrations from the lowlands tend to strengthen the market economy, propose new lifestyles, and encourage local populations to modify the way they use land. Given that natural ecosystem management systems are closely linked to kinship organization systems, the question arises of what happens to the social and family relationships put to the test by these changes.Based on the case of Village Pachorn in Cambodia, we will focus on the impact of agricultural changes on the relationships within the household between seniors and juniors, males and females, parents and children. |
