520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The purpose of this article is to show how the Inquiry published by Lauderdale in 1804 consists chiefly in a development of Smith’s critique of the mercantile system, directed against William Pitt’s economic policy. This perspective enables one to understand the relationships between Lauderdale’s reflections on wealth, capital and its accumulation, and demand. These reasonings seem to fit in the framework of a typical whig political discourse of the 18th century, and display a liberalism in which the main task of the State would be to secure the free expression of private demands.
