| Summary, etc. | L’évocation des objets et des choses dans les lettres de Mme de Sévigné appelle une enquête historique et anthropologique en ce qu’elle peut éclairer les pratiques d’un individu de sexe féminin à l’âge classique. Elle introduit à ses goûts, réfléchit ses représentations et amène à conclure que l’objet n’est de soi pas grand-chose chez l’épistolière. Mais l’étude intéresse également le processus de la création chez Mme de Sévigné. La marquise ne pose pas un regard naïf et réaliste sur le monde qui l’entoure. Objets et trivialités sont d’emblée le moyen privilégié de choix esthétiques et rhétoriques. Ils servent l’invention d’un nouveau genre d’éloquence. |

Yet this study is also concerned with Mme de Sévigné’s writing process itself. She does not look naively or in any realistic manner at the world around her.
