Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The promising trope of technology becomes the correlate of identity and is likely to change the biology of the human body. Values and practices are impacted, including the very definition of what it is to be human. The present article weighs up and criticises the material and symbolic possibilities of the artificial uterus (AU). This makes for an ethno-fiction portending a prospective approach to the issues at stake with such a revision of kinship models (as belief systems). At the heart of the definition of our species, the AU may signify the dissociation between sexuality and reproduction; finally, as an adjunct to the other reproductive technologies it could profoundly modify the childbirth project, offering to each of us the desire to have children. |
