Summary, etc. This articles supports an approach to language that crosses the established disciplinary boundaries between sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and sociolinguistics. After briefly revisiting the inseparable nature of linguistic practices and social practices, I attempt to show why this theoretical notion invites us to venture beyond the logics of disciplinary closure. Finally, using questions posed by the concept of cultural capital, I explain my position on the sociology of education, showing what can be brought to sociological thought if the linguistic aspect of social practices is taken into account.
