| Summary, etc. | Pour satisfaire les besoins communicatifs et limiter l’effort de l’usager, les langues doivent être dotées de mots polyfonctionnels et transcatégoriels. La polyfonctionnalité et la transcatégorialité sont des moyens d’optimisation des systèmes linguistiques permettant à un minimum de formes d’avoir un maximum de fonctions. Ce sont probablement des caractéristiques universelles. Cependant certains types de langues, notamment les langues isolantes, exploitent au maximum ces caractéristiques : de nombreux lexèmes peuvent fonctionner dans d’autres contextes comme des grammèmes ou des pragmatèmes. Le marqueur vietnamien mà en est un exemple par excellence. Cet article a pour objectif d’étudier, sur les plans sémantique, syntaxique et pragmatique, ce marqueur qui présente une polyfonctionnalité propre à interroger les notions de subordination et de subordonnant. |

Example of the Vietnamese marker ‘mà’To satisfy the communicative needs and reduce the user’s effort, languages must contain polyfunctional and transcategorial words. Polyfunctionality and transcategoriality, which are means to optimize linguistic systems, enable a smaller number of forms to express a greater number of functions. They are probably universal characteristics. However some languages, especially isolating languages, make an optimal use of these characteristics: many of their lexemes can function in other contexts as grammemes or pragmatemes. The Vietnamese marker mà is a perfect illustration. This article aims to combine the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic viewpoints to study this marker, the polyfunctionality of which questions the very notion of subordination. |
