520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | What intensity to the so-called intensive ‘ – ment’ adverbs ?We shall study, through a comparative study, three sub-types of adverbs that belong to theso-called intensive “ – ment” adverbs : those of the extrêmement or considérablement type ; others such as rudement or drôlement ; and finally others such as diablement or bigrement. We shall illustrate, after looking at differences as far as the origin of the intensity and the particularities of use of the various adverbs are concerned, that we should not confine these differences to the single matter of intensity, and we propose that we should differentiate in terms of intrinsic and extrinsic markers of degree and intensity. |
