| Summary, etc. | Après l’interrègne anglais et la réouverture des théâtres en 1660 on assista à un afflux de traductions de Molière. Alors que les traducteurs initiaux adoptaient une approche cibliste, le premier xviiie siècle fut marqué par une double stratégie : créer des adaptations pour la scène et surtout promouvoir l’œuvre moliéresque sous forme imprimée. Cet article a pour but d’explorer la création de l’image de Molière outre-Manche en s’appuyant sur les paratextes, les médias naissants, et les gravures. |

| Summary, etc. | Following the Interregnum and the reopening of English theatres in 1660 there was an influx of translations of Molière. While the first translators took a target-oriented approach, the beginning of the eighteenth century saw a two-fold strategy – to create adaptations for the stage but above all to promote the Molière canon in print form. This article will explore the creation of Molière’s public image in England through the lens of paratexts, burgeoning print media, and engravings. |
