Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Research on urban collective gardening and urban agriculture activism is mainly concerned with political and social ecology, using plants as a starting point. Researchers share the ambition of giving greater resonance to urban social movements and new ways of managing nature in the city. After recalling the main arguments of four recent works problematizing these themes, the article choses to discuss them, based on the following two questions : (1) Does militancy in favor of collective gardening practices in the urban environment represent a demand for urban public spaces following their privatization, or does it represent an ideal moment to deconstruct the traditional decoupling of city and nature ? (2) Is the protest movement embodied by plant-based political ecology an adequate response to the challenges of planetarization (climate change described by some as an ecological disaster) and globalization (financial capitalism), despite the serious risks associated with "localism" - the withdrawal of society in favor of the collective? |
