Summary, etc. Depuis une dizaine d’années, l’Éducation nationale semble convertie à un nouveau paradigme pédagogique, culturel et politique : l’acquisition de compétences, plutôt que de connaissances, est devenue la finalité première officielle de l’école. Présenté comme une évolution naturelle commune à l’ensemble des pays développés, ce changement radical n’a pourtant aucun caractère nécessaire. En pénétrant dans les lieux de pouvoir où la réforme a été élaborée, certaines organisations internationales et un dispositif de démocratie participative, cet article entend montrer qu’il aurait pu en être autrement et fournir quelques outils utiles à la réflexion et à l’action politique.

Summary, etc. For the past ten years, french national Education seems to be converted to a new pedagogical, cultural and political paradigm: the acquisition of skills, rather than knowledge, has become the official first goal of the school. Although it was presented as a natural evolution common to all the developed countries, there was no necessity for such a radical change. By penetrating into the places where decision was made, some international organizations and a mechanism of participatory democracy, this article intends to show that it could have been otherwise. It thus provides some useful tools for political reflection and action.
