General note 71
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. While transforming according to his needs a primitive hostile environment into adjuvant survival, the Man, by the way of civilization, has freed himself from natural selection. More deeply, social instincts selection, which promotes per se the increase of rational capacities, has favored community-based organization, cooperation, generalization of solidarity, intensification of emotional feelings, as well as the progressive extension of sympathy, morality, law, protection of the weak and recognition of others as similar beings. Fulfilling the duty – imposed by the first revolution introduced into the science of life by the Origin of species – to clearly inscribe the human species in the animal series, The Descent of Man and Selection in relation to Sex simultaneously fills, in 1871, the obligation to define with regard to it the mechanism which achieves its passage in civilization : by the way of social instincts, natural selection selects civilization, which opposes natural selection. This reversive effect of evolution, to which Patrick Tort has pedagogically attached the topological metaphor of the Mobius strip, today allows to consider the second revolution operated by Darwin anthropologist as a reversal without rupture. Finally, it enables a non-reductionist understanding of the relations between the natural and social sciences.
