L’ouvrage de Montesquieu appartient à celle que les contemporains désignent sous l’appellation générique de « roman politique ». Il entretient des rapports avec ses deux principaux sous-genres, le roman utopique d’une part et le roman d’éducation du prince à la manière du Télémaque d’autre part, et invente un nouveau sous-genre, dont on tente ici de mesurer tant l’air de famille que la singularité. |
