520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The archives and the history of psychiatry. 2nd part : the hospitalization of the insane in Paris during the 19th centuryThe study of 41 registers of manuscripts from the hospitals of the Salpêtrière, Bicêtre and Charenton (30 registers of certificates of the 1838 law and 11 registers of medical observations), between 1815 and 1875, at the Archives de l’Assistance publique and the Archives départementales du Val-de-Marne, nullify current ideas about psychiatric hospitalization in Paris and daily clinical practice of the alienists at this time. The registers of certificates show “voluntary placing” of dangerous insane, frequency of short hospitalizations and of departures against medical advice from the families, first sorties d’essai. The observations include clinical categories nowadays extinguished ( lypémanie, monomania), new entities that expand at this time (alcoholism, persecutory delusion, folie à double forme) and illnesses that will be integrated in publications long after (modern hysteria, anxious disorders, dementia praecox). Clinical concepts, as insight (conscience du trouble), suicidal ideas and behaviour, mental perturbations after childbirth, are explicit. Yong children begin to be interned in public hospitals after 1840.
