| Summary, etc. | Offert comme étrennes au duc de Bourgogne Philippe le Bon par Guillaume Fillastre, abbé de Saint-Bertin, et richement enluminé, le manuscrit Erm. fr. 88 de la Bibliothèque nationale de Russie à Saint-Pétersbourg est une compilation de textes historiques franciliens et septentrionaux. S’y trouvent rassemblées les Grandes Chroniques de France, la traduction française de la Vita sancti Ludovici de Guillaume de Nangis et la Chronique normande du xive siècle. Le rôle exact de Fillastre dans la réalisation du manuscrit fait débat, bien que l’abbé assure avoir simplement fait copier un ouvrage de la bibliothèque de Saint-Bertin. Jusqu’ici peu étudié, le manuscrit 707 de la Bibliothèque d’agglomération de Saint-Omer paraît correspondre à cet ouvrage. Son contenu coïncide exactement, en effet, avec celui du manuscrit de Saint-Pétersbourg. Les légères différences que le texte pétersbourgeois présente par rapport à son exemplar audomarois ne témoignent que du désir de camoufler les jointures d’une compilation quelque peu hétéroclite. |

About the Saint-Omer Exemplar of the Saint-Petersburg Grandes Chroniques de FrancePresented as a New Year’s gift to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, by Guillaume Fillastre, abbot of Saint-Bertin, and lavishly illuminated, manuscript Erm. fr. 88 of the National Library of Russia in Saint Petersburg is a compilation of historical texts from the Parisian region and from Northern France. It includes the Grandes Chroniques de France, a French translation of Guillaume de Nangis’ Vita sancti Ludovici and the Chronique normande du XIVe siècle. The exact role Fillastre played in the making of this manuscript is up for debate, although he himself claims it to be the mere copy of a book then extant at the Saint-Bertin library. An object of little attention, manuscript 707 of the Bibliothèque d’agglomération in Saint-Omer appears to be such a manuscript, its content matching exactly that of the Saint Petersburg manuscript. The slight differences between the text from Saint Petersburg and that of his Saint-Omer exemplar reveal an attempt to shape a homogeneous work out of a somewhat heterogeneous model. |
