520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This article analyses the different stages of the industrial revolution in Russia, showing that it followed the path of Western European countries with fundamental exceptions. Starting later than in countries like Great Britain, France and Belgium, it could benefit from technological transfers, first from British, German, Swiss and Belgian firms. Russia also developed a policy for the formation of human capital during the second half of the 19th century; it materialised with the creation of technical colleges to train the workforce for the textile industry and heavy industry, and then railways, construction, mechanical engineering and the chemical industry, so that Russia became the world leader for technical education together with the United States just before World War I. Thanks to this investment in human capital, it could substitute foreign specialists, notably British, by Russian specialists during the last decade of the 19th century.JEL Classification : D02, H54, L53, N73, N93, O11, O12, O13, O14, 032, 033
