Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | The first half of the 20th century, and more particularly the 1930s, was characterised by a boom in research into the marketing of new special steels. American steel companies embarked on an innovative strategy to meet the demands of their customers. In 1933, US Steel introduced a new steel, CorTen. It was an immediate success, especially with railway equipment manufacturers. CorTen steel is lighter and more resistant to impact and corrosion than conventional steels. After 1945, it was widely used in architecture. From the 1960s onwards, CorTen steel began to form a protective coating for the exterior surfaces of buildings. It can be identified by its characteristic “rusty” patina. JEL Classification : N64, N74, N94, O31 |
