520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article is an attempt to come to grips with George W. Bush’s paradoxical relationship with history, and to account for his perplexing optimism about his posterity, in spite of the very low approval rates when he left office. This aim is pursued from two perspectives. It begins by considering G. W. Bush’s opinion that war is a springboard to presidential greatness, then examines his related presidential style, which belies what Arthur Schlesinger coined “imperial presidency.” The article also assesses the impact of 9/11 on presidential historiography, which appears to be the cornerstone of W’s confidence in the judgement of history. |
