520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Representations of Ganne castle in the 19th century : legends and realitySince the Middle Ages, Ganne castle, which belonged to the lords of La Pommeraie in the 12th and 13th centuries and was refered to in the Chanson de Roland, fed the collective imagination and gave birth to the legend of the blond Mellia. Picturesque ruins attracted the notice of scholars who described and drew them. Engravings, sketches, photos, three dimensional representations immortalised the most spectacular vestige – the portico tower overlooking the road to Brittany. By confronting legend and archaeological data, this rich iconography plays an important role in dating the ruins.
