520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The circulation of Wild Goat Style pottery (MWGS I) from the Black Sea to Western Greece : reception and destination. The author studies a group of Middle Wild Goat Style I pottery (mainly oinochoai and dinoi) that can be assigned to one workshop, active in South Ionia in the third quarter of the 7th century BC. These are prestigious products with decoration of high quality and intended for export, being found in both indigenous and Greek settlements in the Black Sea area (Temir Gora), the Western Mediterranean (Vulci, Incoronata, Siris, Gela) and at the Samian Heraion. Their circulation, typical of hellenisation of early archaic elites in the orientalising manner, helps us to understand their destinations and function. Contexts, exclusively sanctuaries and cemeteries, allows us to define the use of this pottery as for ritual. Their distribution also had an important effect on potters who had emigrated from Eastern Greece to Western Greece ( « West Wild Goat Style » ). |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
