520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This article proposes to examine a particular case of the relationship between Middle Platonic metaphysics and Christian doctrine during the mid-second century, by relating three authors belonging to the same generation : Atticus, Justin and Valentin. Atticus is the author of a singular interpretation of Timaeus 39e7-9, according to which the intelligible Model, which the Demiurge uses to form the world, is located outside and below the Demiurge. This arrangement, criticized and abandoned by the Neoplatonists, seems however to enjoy a certain success among Christians, seeking to describe the relationship between the Creator God and his Logos-Son. By adding abundant biblical expressions to the Platonic vocabulary, Justin and Valentine – each in his own way – show that Platonic inspiration in Christian theology can be done in very subtle and varied ways.
