Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This paper aims at analyzing the connection between liturgy and the issue of totalitarianism in the doctoral thesis by Joseph Ratzinger, the future roman-catholic Pope Benedict XVI : « People and house of God in Saint Augustine’s ecclesiological teaching ». We try to explain how the young Ratzinger starts from a purely theological issue (what is church ?) to go toward analyses with a genuine political and theological aspect. Those analyses are closely interconnected with issue raised in the German Catholicism in the 30s. The future Pope Benedict XVI aims at explaining the difference between the concept of “people of God” as a liturgical concept and any kind of sacralization of a people that would declare superior to the other. The rejection of the national-socialist ideology and of its cult of the “elected race” is part of the background of this work that will remain important for the German theologian during his whole life. |
