520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | In the Gospel stories, the Resurrection of Christ on Easter morning is reported in two different forms, appearance and disappearance. This double form reiterates that Resurrection is an event both indivisible and unified in the manifestation of the Risen One. Despite that, exegetical and theological interest has favored appearance, pushing disappearance into the background of theological considerations. Yet, Hans Urs von Balthasar has included disappearance into the theological formulation, on the one hand in considering appearance and disappearance as unified categorial forms and, on the other hand, in defining disappearance not as the action of disappearing but as a departure, as an announced return echoing the Johannic “I go to the Father” (John 16:28). |
