520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. How can a social worker become legitimate? Mary Richmond’s reply to Abraham FlexnerThis article aims to show that Mary E Richmond’s work was strongly motivated by her will to legitimate the social worker as a professional. In response to the criticism made by Abraham Flexner, she developed a comprehensive strategy (making reference to Andrew Abbott’s use of the notion of a system of professions). The development of the method of social case work is the central feature of this strategy. The author also questions whether this professionalizing model specific to social work in the 20th century is historically sustainable
