520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Between the fifties and the seventies, immigration policy encouraged men to come alone to France while their families stayed in the country of origin. These “isolated people” hoped to go back home quickly. Hostels for single people were built for them. Later, men who had not allowed their wives and children to come to France to join them, increased numbers in hostels and become more elderly age. Public authorities looked for a solution to help them to age well. Different measures were decided to maintain them in the hostels and facilitate travel to their countries of origin. However, the problem considered as that of “the isolated elderly” occults the diversity of forms of ageing among different groups of immigrants. |
