520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The rise of trade shows and their internationalisation with globalisation have been documented in the literature. However, the question of their survival has been largely overlooked. Yet interviews with organisers of international trade shows reveal its importance. These interviewees assert that the “bubble” of a trade show is always susceptible to “burst”, due to foreign competition, offshoring, new regulations, or the disinterest of major corporations. They claim to ensure the survival of international trade shows through a triple work of constant adjusting to global markets, redefining professional boundaries and personalising the event. This retention work of companies, professionals, and participants requires skills that are both rational, jurisdictional, and emotional. Such narratives outline an exclusive imaginary of globalisation, portrayed as something tangible and valuable on events reserved for accredited agents. |
