La chirurgie bariatrique est un traitement validé de l’obésité morbide et constitue en chirurgie abdominale un motif fréquent de demande de réparation pour complications postopératoires. C’est donc l’occasion de faire conjointement le point sur cette chirurgie par un expert médical dans l’évaluation du dommage et un chirurgien bariatrique spécialisé toujours en activité. Le cadre réglementaire belge des indications opératoires et du bilan multidisciplinaire pré-opératoire, les principales complications postopératoires à court et à long terme et l’indispensable suivi au long cours des patient(e)s sont soulignés.

Bariatric surgery is a validated treatment for morbid obesity and constitutes in abdominal surgery a frequent reason for requesting compensation for postoperative complications. This is therefore an good opportunity to jointly take stock of this surgery by a medical expert in the evaluation of the damage and a specialized bariatric surgeon still in activity. The Belgian regulatory framework for indications for surgery and the pre-operative multidisciplinary assessment, the main short- and long-term postoperative complications and the essential long-term follow-up of patients are underlined.
