At the Origins of Sophistry: The Revelation of Future Contingents from a Reading of Richard Fitzralph’s Commentary on the Sentences (II)
Type de matériel :
20
In his lecture on the Sentences (I, q. 16), Richard Fitzralph has built up, with regard to the revelation of future contingents, a subtle casuistry. From the idea that the revelation does not eliminate their contingency, he comes, among other radical conclusions, to the one that God might be deceptive. This thesis, which is a possible outcome of the sometimes so-called « Ockhamist » theory of future contingents, was taken up by Adam Wodeham and Robert Holcot.
