Knowledge in Action: An Ethnomethodological Approach to Training Italian Magistrates
Type de matériel :
17
In Italy candidate magistrates must undergo a 18-month apprenticeship through which they come to know their institution and role. In an ethnomethodological perspective, this paper seeks to describe the interpretative procedures the candidates use in common during the period of training so as to produce their professional identity. Professional training will not be considered as a self-evident phenomenon but as an instance of the social construction of the judge’s identity. Using ethnographical data collected at the Law Court of Lecce, Italy, it provides a description of the ways in which members recognize, classify and identify future magistrates and Italian geography.
