Dans la reconstruction de l’histoire, il ne s’agit pas seulement d’exhumer les restes, mais de s’approprier ce qui a eu lieu sans avoir lieu (dans la terminologie winnicottienne). Le travail d’écriture offre un linceul aux disparus (J. Altounian) qui demeurent désormais dans la parole des vivants.

As the daughter of a Moroccan gone missing for political reasons, the author considers how disappearance leads to confusion between places and generations and how the experience of language is put to the test: How can one express what lies beyond representation and abolishes it? Reconstructing history does not imply merely exhuming remains, but appropriating what has happened without having happened (in Winnicott’s terms). Missing persons are given a shroud through writing (J. Altounian) and they now live on in the words of the living.
