The changing profession of manager: A prospective approach

We describe the current profession of manager using a competency framework, and adopt a provisional prospective approach that enables us to establish an envisaged scenario of the future profession of manager. We highlight that this profession will certainly be characterized by three specific tensions: the accountability of decisions, the combination of technical and managerial expertise, the need for individual management, and the need to federate a collective.
