Raising awareness of child abuse screening among professionals
Type de matériel :
12
It is essential to raise pediatricians’ and general practitioners’ awareness of screening for abuse (negligence and physical, emotional, and sexual abuse), because abuse is still underdiagnosed. Yet it is very common and extremely harmful to child development. It is vulnerable adults who are most likely to be abusers and very young children, premature children, disabled children, and children with chronic diseases who are most frequently abused. There are no signs that alone serve as proof of abuse, but professionals must be attentive to fractures, bruises, behavioral problems, and learning difficulties. When pediatricians and general practitioners suspect a child in their care has been abused, it is essential that they know how to conduct an interview with the parent and the child and know the reporting procedures.
