Alphonse Aulard est souvent présenté comme un dantoniste forcené face à Albert Mathiez, fondateur des AHRF. Cet article revient sur une polémique autour de Danton, opposant en 1893 Alphonse Aulard au docteur Robinet, un disciple d’Auguste Comte. La controverse permet d’analyser les actes politiques de Danton au prisme de la philosophie de l’Histoire positiviste et de la notion de « dictature », afin de questionner la République et la formation de l’histoire révolutionnaire comme histoire méthodique.

Alphonse Aulard is often represented as an ardent dantonist compared with Albert Mathiez, the founder of the AHRF. This article revisits the polemical subject of Danton that, in 1893, witnessed the confrontation of Alphonse Aulard and the Doctor Robinet, a disciple of Auguste Comte. This controversy makes it possible to analyze the political acts of Danton in light of the philosophy of positivist history, and the notion of « dictator » in order to pose questions about the Republic, and the formation of « revolutionary history » as a methodical history.
