Wittgenstein Reads the Bible

"While a considerable amount of literature has been dedicated to Wittgenstein's ideas on religious belief and his enigmatic ""religious point of view"", very little has explicitly addressed the philosopher's relationship to the Bible. This void in the bibliography is all the more surprising for several reasons: (1) Wittgenstein read and reflected on the Bible throughout most of his adult life; (2) he frequently discussed the Bible with his friends and colleagues; (3) his manuscripts contain numerous references to biblical passages, often in unusual contexts
