The Style of the Worst: Lacan and Mallarmé

Lacan’s baroque style is often seen as a detail or a defect. If, however, we relate his style to Mallarmé’s, we find, on the contrary, that it corresponds to a plan to restore rights of expressiveness, constantly ridiculed by the privilege granted to signification in speech. Rhetoric is therapeutic (not the opposite) when it gives back the use of figures and semblance to the subject, which allow him to invent the depths of his desolation.
