Two-phase multidimensional assessment and exploration of the specific needs of migrant children

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The aim of this article is to discuss the impact of globalization on the development of migrant children, especially those who are refugees or with no legal residential status. Exposure to a triad of negative experiences, i.e., potentially traumatic events, early family separation, and lack of education, is quite common. The accumulation of such experiences can have an adverse effect on the satisfaction of children’s basic needs and is associated with increased difficulties in post-migratory adjustment and inclusion in school. A clinical case study is presented here to illustrate a multidimensional psychological test-retest assessment procedure, which enables a better understanding of migrant children's difficulties and which could lead to more targeted and more effective interventions.
