It is not fortuitous that the great period of ideological and dramatic experiment in the second half of the 1920s, between the shock of the “big city” and the rise of Nazism, was a great period for fragments. This paper shows the importance of these fragments for understanding Brecht’s literary production as a whole through a reading of the fragment of the didactic play Der böse Baal der Asoziale.
